Abstract: He Jiaying summarized three highlights of watercolors in this Exhibition. The first is in contents. The range is rather wide and concepts are fairly new. The second is in subjects. They are not only depicting grand scenes or common landscapes but also presenting special modern views. The third is in skills, giving full play to the characteristics of watercolors. A lot of good works are exhibited.
He Jiaying: More Attention to “Close to Life” & “Deep Exploration” for Artwork Evaluation on National Art Exhibition
Zhang Xiong Art correpsondence ( article/Hu Ying) The 12th National Art Exhibition and China Fine Art Award·Creation Award, Award-Nominated Works Exhibition were opened in National Art Museum of China on Dec. 15,2014. There were totally 576 pieces of artwork on exhibition, of which 160 pieces were awarded. As one of the jury experts, He Jiaying received an interview with Zhang Xiong Art. He highly praised the watercolors works on this Exhibition, telling the correspondent that he was happy to see many good works emerge and the artwork levels were fairly high.

How are the exhibited watercolors evaluated?
He Jiaying explained the features of this Exhibition in four aspects. The first is exquisite painting skills and vivid watercolor language. The second is subjects of profound connotation with realistic life feelings. The third is the integration of novel formalism with touching state of creation. The last is the distinctive creativity which gives fresh feelings to watercolor art. He Jiaying said the evaluation on this Exhibition paid more attention to the subjects which presented the people’s life esp. ordinary people’s life. The gold award finally went to figure painting; the decision of the silver award had the same tendency, too.
Expectation for 13th National Art Exhibition
Critical comments from all sides should be seriously considered; shorts should be improved; award evaluation mechanism should be reformed and innovated; so as to make the award evaluation on each exhibition reveal the painter’s level better.
In truth, there is a huge number of artists in our country, said He Jiaying. They can concentrate on art creation but not yield to the market.
This is the session of National Art Exhibition held ever. The next session will be more improved to exhibit more creative artwork in such a growing trend and open and inclusive environment.
The next session of National Art Exhibition will improve some deficiencies including advocating and realizing the diversity of art. More attention will be paid to the profoundness of the artwork and its deep exploration into life. To promote art creation, Chinese Artists Association will also organize training classes to improve artists’ creativity.
